I was wondering if this would be a good kit to start out on. I am concerned that the lock may not be all that good. Could another lock be put in later? Thanks for the info and help.

Bud.

My first kit was a CVA which is pretty much the same as Traditions. I have two of the Kentuckys, one in flint and one in percussion. I still shoot them occasionally and the shoot well with the proper load.

The kit goes together easy enough with most of the inletting done for you. I like them for first kits because they are easy to put together and allow the builder to see how these firearms are built. If you don't like the lock you can put an L&R RPL lock on it with little effort.

I had the CVA in flint for 15 years and never had any problems with it, despite what many on here claim as poor quality locks. From what I have seen on the Traditions models the locks are actually better quality now. I have the Traditions in percussion and really enjoy it, it is very accurate and I am very impressed with the barrel quality.
