:v Well, I bought a finishing kit and have started on my rifle. I never noticed the machine cuts on the stock until I started sanding, their machine cuts cross-grain, so when you begin sanding, it shows up, and takes considerable sanding to get through them for the first part of the finishing.
It sure brings out the beauty of the wood though when you first begin the finishing process.I put on the "True Oil" first of three finishing coats on it and it darkened the wood a little, but, I'm sure excited now, it's going to be a beautiful rifle stock.I love working with wood, so this is a real treat.

if you use an abrasive flapwheel on a flex shaft that sanding will be done in no time.

Over the years I've learned that sometimes it is best to go slowly and to sneak up on my intended stopping place rather than to charge onward only to find later that I went too far.

I've used those abrasive flapwheels to remove the rough sand cast surfaces that are on butt plates and they did indeed shorten the amount of work but, I would be very cautious about using one of them on a stocks wood.

Course, that's just me.

:v I did the sanding by hand, as I do have lots of woodwork experience, and with good sand paper it didn't take to long to get the machine marks out of the wood. It's all stained, and the second coat of tru oil just went on, and it's beginning to have a nice shine. This evening I'll ad the third coat on it. This has been a really fun experience, and I can hardly wait to begin putting it together. This has made my mind up, it will not be my last kit rifle. I think building is half the fun. Then with all the good advice I've got here, it really makes it fun because your advice releaves any stress or worry leaving this guy free to enjoy the build.
