Here's a tip for an alternative way of "carrying" a range rod while shooting trap / skeet targets with your smoothbore...the wooden ball on my smoothbore range rod is the same size as the head on the Maglite. (Photo from Raine product catalog at raine.com) Could make one out of leather for a more traditional look.

Note: There are also Maglite holders that are a steel ring, but this Nylon style won't accidently harm the finish on a muzzleloader, AND the wooden ball of a range rod rests on top of the nylon cylinder, which holds the range rod a couple inches higher away from the ground than the ring style of holder which hangs lower below the belt.
