I would like to learn the ropes of flintlock shooting. I ordered a Traditions Trapper before I found this Forum. Would this be OK to learn on, or would I be better off to sell it NIB, and buy something elce before I shoot it?

:v The Trapper is an excellent gun and the Traditions manufacturers stand behind their products. I owned a Percussion trapper and was talked out of it several years back, good gun, pretty good trigger and the perc. lock didn't misbehave; I presume you will have the same luck learning with your model. Good Luck

My first flinter was a pistol, and it is a great place to start. It's also a cheaper than a long gun If you decide you don't like the hassle. But I can guarantee that once you figure it out you will not want to shoot a percusion again  I'm looking for a flint rifle now

I've got flint and percussion rifles and pistols. I find the flintlocks are more fun to figure out and shoot. I value the few ribbons I win at the club shoots more and I enjoy the looks on the faces of those that can't believe how accurate they are.
