Well, by accident I stumbled across a method for nicely securing the tang to the patent breech for inletting into the stock without solder, epoxy, super glue or screws. Just make thin brass shims to the size of each half of the tang face, thick enought to require a bit of a tap on their respective sides to get them in. I made mine of hobby shop sheet brass, and, since I'm not a terrific filer, the one to port is thicker than the one to starboard. In any envent, when they're in place, the whole assembly is very secure and can be inlet as a single unit. In the attached picture, I've pulled the shim from the snail side; the other is still in place.

And to think last week, you were all nervous asking questions. See what a week, a little confidence, and can do attitude will do for a persons spirit. I can see ya got the desease bad, :haha: Good work. My favorite method is JB weld on the bottom. Just takes some heat when the inletting is done. Bill

I tell you, Bill, I'm still nervous and far from finished asking questions! What I'm doing now is creating an "Encyclopedia of Applied Caplock Construction". (Great title, eh?) I'm going through all 91 pages of "The Builder's Bench" and printing out all of the appropriate construction articles for my project. I'm about 1/3 of the way through now, with articles on files and filing, inletting and marking, jigs and alignment, browning and bluing, finishing and fitting. Each article copied makes me feel just a little bit more secure!

Clay, glad to hear it. I sure miss the food out there, some mighty fine restaurants, and wine. Especially liked going to Gilroy for Linguini and clams at Joe's. Some of his sauces would probably hold that tang and barrel together. :rotf: Bill
