Did a search and got naught.

As I am given to understand, the newer American Pioneer Powder is really just the old Clear Shot in drag. But I note on their web site, they do say it works in flintlocks, has anyone had any experience with it in rock locks?

My thoughts are it will most likely require BP to prime and a bit of a pre charge under the main load?

American Pioneer Powder used to be Clean Shot, not Clear Shot. Clear Shot was made by Goex, and did not work very well, and was discontinued. Clean Shot, on the other hand, was marketed in granular form, as well as pellets. Hodgen, the makers of Pyrodex, and Triple Seven powders, and pellets, sued, claiming that they had the rights to so-called pellets. They prevailed in thier lawsuit, and Clean Shot was discontinued in name, and renamed American Pioneer Powder. They do not make pellets anymore, but have "sticks", as well as granular powder. This is the explanation I was given by the folks at my local gunshop.

The latest NRA magazine you should have just got, either "American Hunter" or "American Rifleman" has an article on American Pioneer Powder.

I will recheck the January 06 issue of the Rifleman just got, don't recall seeing it.

The article is on page 70 of the Jan. 2006 American Hunter. I get both magazines,so I had to go look.

I've got a pound of APP sitting around that I use in my revolvers bustin cans when no one else is around to see me use it :rotf: My buddy and I goofin around this past summer tried some in my flinter. I used 3F APP with 4F Goex in the pan. It went off every time but, I must say it was a slow fire - something that is unsual for my flinter. Have not tried it since or tried shooting that stuff in my flint lock for anything serious such as hunting or target shooting.

I tried APP FFFG in my T/C Hawken Flinter last winter, in the main charge, with Goex FFFFG in the pan. It was not consistant. Sometimes it would go off, sometimes hangfire. I do not use it in flinters anymore. Goex FFFG in the pan and main charge. Works everytime, great locktime!

Short of typing the whole article, they did see a inconsistant FPS of around 150 FPS. But, they were using the pellets, and these weighed inconsistant. They did say that you would get more consistant loads using the loose powder version. They did comment how nicely it cleaned. Now, I have used quite abit of the older stuff called Clean Shot. It didn't work well in the flinters, but it did work fine in the perc. guns. I did notice that it power degraded over time though. I have used allot of it in my percussion shotguns though to use it up and I certainly have no complaints about it them.

The old stuff they use to make was down about 10% on power , but left a gray ash in your bore so slick I could get off 25 shoots and never feel any difference loading but better it would NOT rust, not in a day a week a month, and here in East Texas summers you can get rustted bores trying to get home after shooting. Someone I think it was Sin Shot Exch did a test with all the pwders and wana bs and this stuff didnt show a speck of rust in 30 days ,the big" P " rusted all up in days. Fred :hatsoff:
