Trigger pull question

Hi all
I am currently building. Traditions Frontier .50 Hawken rifle. I am not a fan of the double set trigger system. I find it a bit tooo sensitive.. I plan on using this gun for deer hunting and would like a stronger single trigger set up.... What are my opinions? I am new to this would and could use some guidance here....

You can adjust the set trigger to be a bit stiffer. That little screw in between the triggers. Turn it clockwise a little.
You can also contact Traditions in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.
They may have a single trigger assembly for you.

I am not a set trigger fan. I have a T/C Renegade that had double set triggers that I replaced with a single trigger I bought from R.E.Davis. They did not have one for the Renegade. So I bought one based on the total length. It had a little more curve than the Renie but some light tapping flattened it out enough to fit. It works fine and I think I paid about $26 more or less.

Isn't the advantage of the double set trigger being able to use the front trigger "unset" with a normal pull weight & having the option to "set" it so it is very light, should circumstances allow.???? Like bubba.50. said, just use it unset. Nothing says you have to "set" it.

If he turns it clockwise it will make it lighter!!

That screw just changes the front trigger engagement. Backing it out will put more creep in the trigger when set. For more tension shim the front trigger spring up. To increase the tension I put a 1/16" stud under the flat spring where it bends over the trigger plate. Simple to do. Just drill a 1.16"hole and put the stud in it. When you get it like you want it, you can glue it, but it will probably stay there with the spring holding it in.

EC121 is correct.
The only thing that the screw between the triggers changes is the amount of engagement between the front firing trigger and the rear set trigger.
That changes the amount the front trigger has to move to release the rear trigger but it doesn't change the amount of power that is needed to move the trigger.

Not always. Some double set triggers are designed to be set only. Using the front trigger only can break the trigger spring. You are probably correct when it comes to modern replica arms.

I like a single trigger that is stiff enough that I can shoot it while wearing gloves. If you are going to be deer hunting, odds are that it will be cold. Hair triggers and gloves do not work well together.

In the single trigger conversions TC sold for a while that’s all they did was just send a trigger plate with only the front trigger mounted. Remove the leaf spring and knock out the pin holdin’ the rear trigger and you’ll have the same thing TC charged about 30 bucks for.

Not all double set triggers are equal though. Some have a front trigger that is easy to use without setting and some are horrendous. All my TC triggers had useable front triggers as did a CVA Hawken, but I've encountered some that were difficult to pull front only.

Certainly would work though if he is happy with the front trigger pull as it is.

OTOH, it still results in a forward trigger position that may not be what he wants.

A good but not easiest solution is to make a trigger plate that fits and pin the trigger through the stock.
