I've just noticed that with the cast-off in my stock, it's impossible to get my triggerguard aligned perfectly - it's a matter of fitting a straight line to a curve.

Do you just get the best fit you can with this, or somehow try to bend the guard sideways slightly? The latter seems to me risking breakage, but maybe I'm wrong.

By chance TOW is currently selling two Chambers York rifles like mine (by PM Hogan) - a great source of close-up pictures for people like me working in isolation! - and the guards seem to be best-fit aligned rather than bent to fit.

I've hardly ever found one that was straight to begin with unless wax cast, so always end up bending them, removing twist, etc. Anneal by heating to very dull red in the dark then dunking in water. They can and will crack unless you anneal before working. If you just need to fix one spot, you can spot-anneal. If you need to work it several times, anneal in between work.
