I use my 50 cal Tryon as my main competition rifle. I've even won the odd match with it. It is a 1 in 48 twist. I've used it for deer hunting as well but I made the trigger guard larger to accommodate a gloved trigger finger. It gets heavy to lug around in the snow. If the condition is good andt he price reasonable I'd buy it. I'm impressed enough with the rifle I bought a second Tryon new for a good price but haven't used it in years.

Out of serious curiosity, how did you do that? I've got the same complaint about lots of rifles, and I'm more concerned about the usefulness of my rifles than any pretense of period accuracy.

Brown Bear. It doesn't look gracefull but I cut the guard off just at the back trigger.I fashioned a new piece from mild steel 1/8" sheet using a torch, hammer and anvil. I then used the traditional MIG welder to join it in with the original guard. Some filing and bluing and it works. It is a rounded affair going below the line of the original, out in front and back again to the top.
