I was looking at the various Tulles out there and noticed the butt curves down, Was it supposed to mount to the shoulder or was it supposed to go into the armpit area?

People back then had longer necks... :what:

Actually, it could be fired both ways, depending on your build, as long as you can sight down it, you should hold it to where you get the best feel while shooting...

:imo:

it's goofy looking, but incredibly comfortable to shoot, and the deep sweep of the butt actually lifts your head to the level that it should when shooting a musket. I love mine.

Only some Tulles had the butt stock architect you refer to. The French called it "pied de vache", translation, "Cow's foot".

I have a fusil de chase, may look odd, but a terrific shooter.
