Hi all, I just finished installing the breach plug on my Tulle kit and need to shape the tang. The problem is I don't have pictures of tang styles. Are there any good sites that have pictures of Tulles to help me decide what style I want to use?

Thanks He-Bear, I looked in the catalog I have on my bench but didn't think of the on-line version.

I think the round type is about the only correct option for a gun from Tulle, the trigger guard should be screwed on instesd of pinned on a plain gun and the ramrod pipes should have one pin instead of two also the buttplate should have 3 screws... Bouchards book is the best place to look for detail as most builders do not follow the originals very closely. The full sized plan fom TOW is based on someones idea of a French gun not any original.

TG is correct here. I pulled out some pictures of an iron mounted fusil ordinaire de chasse{pied de vache or cows foot}from the 1730's and it has a round end tang. On the other hand I do have a picture of a Liege built Fusil fin with a tang which tapers out and squares off slightly wider than at the breech.

Tang : The late XVII th cent , guns had a
square tang and a round barrel , early XVIII th
have rounded tang and octogon to round barrel
but God knows when the change took place .

Is far as I know , the plan sold by ToW was
drawn by Kit Ravenshear , to make the repro used
by Park Canada in Louisbourg and other such places .
It shows military Tulles ( for the Navy and Franche
Marine ) and was made as an " average " of whatever
Park Canada had in their reserve at the time .

The gun on the plan was made by Mike Hayes and looks more like a Fin ( thumb escuthceon, carving behind tang) which may explain the pinned guard, and double thimble pins, all in all it kis better to look to the books for guidence rather than anyones interpretation.
