I'm thinking of trying fall turkey hunting, but don't have the right gun. I assume I need a barrel that could shoot shot? What would be the right barrel for my TC Hawken .54cal if I wanted to swithch to a barrel for turkey hunting? .56 cal smoothbore? Is it worth upgrading to a Green Mountain barrel? or is the 28 inch factory TC good enough for shot. Or should I just look for a real turkey gun? I know you guys have opinions...

Last year I got a Green Mountain .62cal smoothbore Flint drop in for a Hawken...works perfectly...just haven't managed to get a Turkey close enough for a shot...
:(

Just curious... when you say drop in, do you mean it has the sight and tennons soldered on already, or do you have to add those yourself?

It should have everything needed to "drop in", this includes the breech hook, wedge tennon and under-rib and thimbles...

All you do in drop it in and push in your wedge pin(s)...

Might need to do some adjustments for the wedge to fit properly. Not a big deal -- just pressing the tenon in a vise or bending of the wedge.
