Hello, I'll bet this has been discussed before but couldn't find it. What recomendations do some of you have for a smooth bore to use for turkey hunting? 12 gauge, 20 gauge. Also anyone hunt with a unchoked barrel? What are the results?

As one reference, I use a .62cal/.20ga...20-22yds is about it for me with a cylinder bore barrel after a small turkey head/neck target.

But another barrel I had Jug Choked 'Full' gives an excellent Turkey head pattern out to 40yds...took a big Jake at 40yds, and a Tom at 30 with it

Either gauge will do and the longer the barrel the better for a cylinder bore but even then getting 25 to 30 yards is pushing it. Alot of guys like roundball are Jug choking guns and using them for birds. Some people report ok accuracy with ball loads after Jug choking and some do not.
