What's everybody's opinion on TVM kits and rifles? I'm leaning toward buying one of there rifles as a first muzzleloader, and one of there kits to build.

I assume that you are talking about "Tennessee Valley Muzzleloading", and not Tennessee Valley Manufacturing. Two companies, with the same initials, in the same town in Mississippi. Matt Avant does excellent work.
Lead and delivery times vary depending on the time of year, but 6-9 months is not to long to expect. Mrs.( Toni)Avant will give you the expected delivery time when you call and place your order. You send a deposit with the order, then are notified when the work is to begin, then when its about finished, so you can send the balance of the money to pay for the gun. Its then shipped to you when finished.
There can be further delays if you order something that they do not have in stock, or ask for carving, or inlays, etc. that will take more work to complete.
They have built their business on satisfying customers, so they work with you and answer your questions. If they think you are mixing apples and oranges when it comes to a particular "school" or style of gun, they will tell you, and suggest you consider an alternative that is more historically correct. But, in the end, you decide. The best way to get answers about a gun is to call and ASK them. :shocked2: :wink: :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Thanks, I ment the Muzzleloading one. I noticed there were two TVM's, but didn't think much about it.

Jack Garner is retired and Randy Heil is running Tenn valley Manufacturing. He is still using the TVM name, but also his own name.
His guns are built by Brian Turner and he also uses a gentleman from Tenn whose name escapes me at the moment, but I have seen and handled both of their work and it is excellent.
Had the privilege of working in his shop this year and sipping some tenn whiskey with Jack.
Also met Matt and Toni,very nice people.
Have just ordered 2 kits from Randy and being that I am passing through on my way back to New Hampshire. Or "YANKEE LAND" :grin: They don't quite know what to think of a white haired new Englander that just loves the south. :thumbsup:
Randy will shape the wood and pick the parts that I want out of his large inventory in a few hours.
leaving me enough time to visit,tell and listen to some stories, laugh and drink a few toddies with Jack.
If you are in the area and call ahead, you can do the same. While I was there, he had a number of customers come in and drive out with kits. They also have a few completed guns in inventory.
plus, the Shiloh battlefield is just a few minutes away. Always worth the trip

I bought my first flinter from TVM last september. I got the late lancaster in a kit. I had a lot of questions but Toni was very patient and offered some very good advice. Between TVM and a book on building flinters that was suggested, on a good day, at 50 yards, I can give a bulls eye a hard time. Make a list of any questions or concerns you have and give them a call. :thumbsup:
