I got these, and would like to know more about them? One is a Tower, and the other Harpers Ferry.

They are made in Japan, but the finish and fit is pretty darn nice! These were in a closet for many years and remain unfired!

Tell me more folks!!

I have a "Tower" repro that looks like yours from when I was a kid. I shot it with a teaspoon of FFg and BBs then. Haven't shot it in years. There was some discussion of them a while back - some models were supposedly unsafe. Your mileage may vary.

unfired is a good way to maintain them..I handled
the tower a long time ago and formed an opinion
of them that i found no reason to change. Made
for the unsuspecting...

The 1980 Dixie catalog has this to say about the Tower Pistol:

Modern made and very attractive. Sometimes called a pirate pistol. Rather nice quality. 9 1/2" steel barrel. No matter from whom you purchase these guns, they will not spark very good. No other company will advertise that they do not work good. Just because they will not spark good, do not fail to send us a nice check for $42.50 for one of these guns. Bore size is a true .670. Use a .650 mold. Shipping weight 6 lbs. Have fun!

Now, when Dixie can't think of something better to say...well...I'm not going to say that it is "junk", but maybe it isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer?

Sorry. :(

Mine sparked just fine! In fact, if you don't want it, let me know, and maybe we can work something out.... :hmm:

Have a gunsmith check your breech plug, and if you get a clean bill of health, give her a try. It's not going to be a Mortimer by any means, but it may not be so bad.

Just some eBay madness trivia - a pistol like the "Tower" that you show just sold for $117.91! The head of the pivot screw for the frizzen was snapped off and the frizzen spring was broken!!! So strictly speaking it was not just like your photo. :shocked2: I truly do not understand.

sneezy

As mentioned, the "Tower" was sold by Dixie who would heat treat the locks for all of $4.00! The Harpers Ferry usually had treated locks and usually shot well enough. You can harden the fizzen and lock parts yourself pretty easily with Kasenit. We shot 'shooter' marbles out of the Tower we had as kids. Usually had to use kitchen matches to do it...didn't invesst the $4.00! Some people's kids!! :rotf:

I picked up both of those pistol's twins a few years ago from the same seller. One of them sparked so-so, the other sparked barely and weakly. I sold them for a slight profit to someone who wanted them and could harden the frizzen faces. In today's "Pirates of the Caribbean" world, they should fetch a pretty shilling. A year from now, probably won't bring so much.
