I hope all had a good 4th of July. Mine was, with a little extra, A friend of mine cousin. Told me over a year ago that he had two percussion pistols that he would give me,Well I had forgotton about about them and yesterday out of the blue he called and told me that my friend would be bringing them to me.

The fist one is marked MARKSWELL ARMS CO,45 CAL MADE IN SPAIN.It has a 6 inch barrel.A medal ram rod,and what looks like a pretty decent piece of wood under a ugly finish.

The second is RICHLANDS ARMS CO.44 CAL MADE IN ITALY WITH A 10 INCH BARREL.THIS ONE IS WHAT APPEARS TO BE A KIT GUN.

These are my first B/P pistols any info will be greatly appreciated.

They both probably take #11 caps. As to the size balls, one is marked .44 cal and one is marked .45 cal. Lots of diameters out there...better to measure yours and get back to us! Remember one thing though: some BP guns marked .44 cal actually use a .457 ball (revolvers mostly) and some single shot .45 cal pistols use a .440 ball and a .015, .018, or even a .020 lubed patch.

Someone smarter than me on this subject is sure to chime in, so just be patient.

Since they both came from the same guy, there's a chance that the two guns could use the same diameter balls.

Hope this helps some and make some smoke too!

Dave

The .45 will take a .440 ball with a patch. If the .44 is a revolver than it will take a .451 to .457 ball. If the .44 is a single shot than it will take a .433 ball and a patch. Let us know if you need further info.
