One of the magazines I subscribe to had a decent article by a fellow who assembled a long gun kit.
Photos in the article showed each side of the buttstock - seemingly each with its own patchbox.

As far as I can tell I believe it's a case of one of the images getting reversed.
But only out of curiosity - has anyone seen or built a long gun with a patchbox on both sides?

Somewhere not long ago, saw a mtn. rifle repro. that had a hole drilled on both sides of the butt. I thought it looked dumb , but to each his own. I guess one hole was for grease lube and the other for precut patches?????? I've used enough Mtn, rifles w/ one hole on the lock side. That was confusing enough for my old brain. Will love the simplicity of back country rifles , :thumb: until my last flint goes dull...........oldwood

Thanks Ames for the picture of the " Peanut Box." I think I have one of those in iron, from 30 yrs. ago in my parts stash. Your illustration gave me the idea to use it on a scratch built walnut smooth bore long rifle , I've been working on. .........It's a PIA to get old ......oldwood
