Group,

I have read conflicting views regarding a button jag verses a tapered waist jag.

Very basic question, why are there two types of jags? Does one type hold the patch better when the rod is withdrawn?

Marc

There's probably a hundred types of jags. For me, the short ones are too short to use with a ramrod. There's not enough of the ramrod left sticking out to grip it. The longer the jag the better in that respect. I carry a jag extender in my hunting gear for that reason. As far as holding a patch, too short of a button can let a patch get balled up behind it and be a real bear to pull out.

If you have a RR that fits in the bore (just enough room to slide free) and a parellel jag it could bind as there is no place for the cleaning patch to go. When the RR has plenty of side clearance a parellel sided jag should not be a problem. Different RR diameters versus the bore size to me is the reason. JMO
