I'll be glad when my parts for gun get here..meanwhile I thought I would try this to get some use out of my pictures.
Also this post just reminds me how good I use to have it when I lived in Ga. and just walked out the backdoor and started hunting. Now days.....

It all starts from my tent..I reach over and turn the alarm off..4:30am..roll out of the cot..light the burner for coffee slip on my clothes and boots, drink 1 20oz cup of coffee, pour another one for the road..grab my gun..make sure I got my bag of food and jug of water..head out the tent to vehicle and get in line to check station. Get checked in drive about 4miles to "No vehicles Beyond this point sign" park ..unload gear..fannypack, put headlight on, grab lunch and water jug..Walk down old woods rd a ways and locate hidden bike ..load all gear into handle bar basket..sling gun across back ..take off down the trail..get off bike and cross ditch..get back on and ride to river..(if it's low enough to cross if not go the long way and walk bike across old bridge )making sure to dodge the cypress knees in trail (broke my toe 2nd. day of season one year..when smashed it between cypress knee and bike peddle..I wear camo. tennis shoes).

If river is low enough (no more than halfway up the wheels)shine good to see if gator or snake is not layin around .. ride bike across watching for holes..(it's amazing but I never have fallen in (have come close) and it would be bad with gun strapped across my back) if it's too high wade and push bike..do it again for the next crossing..ride (if possible) or push bike through hog rootin and cypress knees for the next 15min. until trail winds up and out of bottom and hits old woods rd. Crank it up to full speed down the road for the .45min. (if road is not boggy or under water) ride. Try to avoid running over a hog they're all in the roads along side of it and so are gators they are every where little ones too. Along with a few of these and every now and then a bobcat. Anyway I have to really hurry to get way back where I will hunt before daylight. I will go about 4 more miles and then hide my bike and go in and pick up one of my climbers I have either hid after I got down the night before or one I had stashed. If I'm going to hunt fairly close I'll take it on in..if not I'll strap it to bike and go to area I'm going to hunt. Either way I'll go in and get up tree and hunt till about 12 noon. Then I'll come down and if I'm going to hunt that spot in afternoon leave it if not bring it out and hide or put on bike and move to another area.

I'll find some shade and tie my jungle hammock between a couple of trees and eat lunch and take nap. I can't make it if I don't take a nap I'll get so sleeply in afternoon can't stay awake in stand..4 angio plasties, openheart plus old. Sometimes I need to move stands or look place over and will not get the nap. but an hr. or so z's makes things a lot better.
Most times I hunt a different area in afternoon..due to public land and trying to catch deer moving out of bedding areas..etc. I don't really hunt hogs..just shoot one every now and then if they look like will taste good and in easy spot to get out. But afternoon is time to hunt them in this area.
I'll hunt till about 5:30 ...that's the bad thing about hunting way back..I have to allow time for getting game back to check station before 8:00pm..and it takes a while to shoot, fielddress, drag it where I can get it on bike or get my 4wheel drive to it..no ATV's allowed..except the non motorized 2w atv. You can drive in to pick up game for a $50.00 fine and it's worth it if they catch you. Either that or roll it out on bike 7 miles. However..you have to get down early in afternoon because of time to get checked out. gobbler seasons no problem.
Anyway..hunt till time to get down either get game out or just make the ride back out..hide bike..get back to check station..scrouge up something to eat..make lunch for next day..and hit the hay so I can do it all over again.

Neat story Hoyt. I really like the picture links - all those hog pictures make we want to try and bag one with the .62. There's no hogs up here! Thanks for the read. :applause:

Thanks Baron..the place is eat up with hogs (I hunt around a guy that kills over 30 a yr. in there..that's not an exaggerated number either..he just stays after them every day) and every yr. I say I'm going to shoot more, but never do cause I'm always zeroed in on deer hunting. They're are a very few really nice bucks (for Florida) in the place and that's why I go so far back. Hope to get a good one with flintlock..as that's all I'm going to use from now on.
I got these 3 bucks in there and did the taxidermy work on them.

Whoa! Nice bucks Hoyt. I honestly didn't think they grew that big in Florida. As for the hogs - they're on my "list" for someday. Maybe I can combine them with the Osceola hunt that's also on that list.

Second the nice racks! Also glad you gave us a hint of how y'all do it in FL.

Nice bucks and nice taxidermy, Hoyt  Whereabouts in Fla are you? What do you typically charge for a standard buck mount (I'm being optimistic because I hope to get a "mountable" buck in n. Fla.)? Like you, I'm switching to flint this year :D :RO:

Back in the early 60's I couldn't afford to get my deer heads mounted so I ordered a mail order taxidermy course out of the back of a Sports Afield magazine. Think it cost me $11.00..anyway I never have gone into business..just do a few of my deer and turkey. I live in Orlando..where are you over in Melbourne area?

where are you over in Melbourne area?
About 50 miles south in Fort Pierce. Mostly shoot at the Indian River County Public Range in Sebastian. Must be nice to be close To Buffalo Bill's Shooting Store, the only muzzleloading shop in the state that I'm aware of :D

Hoyt,

Nice!! Nice bucks too... It sure sounds like you EARN your game...you have to be proud about that.
