Anyone have an Uberti 1862 Police revolver? If so what do you think of it? I won one on an auction and it is supposed to be here Monday. The auction said it has a 6 1/2" barrel, but all the ones i see advertized say they have a 5 1/2" barrel. Did they ever make one with a 6 1/2" or was the auction write up wrong? Are they well made? How do they shoot? Any info appreciated. Thanks.

You will not like it, please forward to me ASAP I will make sure you never have to fire it. ET

Small frame .36 Use .375 or .380 ball with 3F charge of about 15 grains. Makes a great small game gun on a hunt.

Wilded, thanks, i will get it right out to you as soon as it gets here. It sounds like i shouldn't even load it. I am familiar with the Pietta revolvers but never had an Uberti. I hear that they are supposed to be top of the line. Is it true that Uberti makes the New Generation Colt BP Revolvers? Are they as light weight as the Navy Arms Pocket Police? Take care.

Looking at the 1995, 1997, 2002 and 2005 Dixie Catalog, they show the Uberti 1862 Police with a 5 1/2 inch barrel.
I don't know if this is just because Dixie only ordered that length barrel or not but I am sitting here typing with a 1862 Uberti Police Colt pistol in my lap. It has a 6 1/2 inch barrel on it.
I should mention that it was made in 1977 but if they made the gun once in that length, they may still make it. I guess you'll have to wait for it.
This is a 5 shot .36, with fluted cylinder and it weighs exactly 26 ounces.

As you know, this is a very scaled down 1860 style Colt, the only thing similar being the trigger guard and the distance from the front of the grip to the trigger.
Speaking of the grip, it is a full 1/2 inch shorter than the 1860 Colt grip and if your hand is like mine, you will find that you will have to hold the gun with one finger on the trigger, two fingers on the grip and the little finger folded under it.

Mine is a beautifully made gun, and personally, I think the 1862 police was the most attractive of all of the Colt pistols.

I've found that shooting it with 16 grains of FFFg under a .375 ball is a lot of fun except for one thing.
Because it is so light weight it is very hard to hold it steady enough to get a good group despite the excellent trigger pull.

I'm sure you won't like it so just PM me for my mailing address. (You can never have too many, Ah sais).

Thanks for the info Zonie. I guess if you have one with a 6 1/2" barrel that they were made that way at one time then. The one i am getting is used, so it may be that old. Will have to wait and see. I have a small hand so the grip is ok on them. I had a Navy Arms once with a 5 1/2" barrel, but it was so light weight i didn't care for it and sold it. This one may be the same way. If so i will have to dismanbtle it and send half to you and half to Wilded since you both seem to have my best interest at heart. Take care.

I've got it figured out for you. He gets the cardboard box half and I get the pistol half.

I was just noting that the top of the barrel on my pistol is marked E.M.F. Co LA CAL.
On the side it's marked "A.UBERTI & C GARDONE V.T. ITALY"
No BLACK POWDER ONLY stuff at all.
The brass parts were was once Silver Plated and there are areas where some silver still exists.

Don't get your hopes up about the longer barrel adding much weight over the 5 1/2 inch barrel on your old gun.
I just calculated it and one inch of barrel, the size of my guns barrel will weigh .0424 pounds. That's 0.6787 ounces.

awl I can say is ....you lucky dog!
those are nice little pistols and Uberti is
TOP O THE LINE in my book anyway.....
if ya ever consider gittin rid of it...well
just put that fool thought right out of yer head....cuz you will regret it later and gittin another on auction will take years.....
I had one and sold it on auction....yep,
I was stupid back then...prices sure go up fast..dont they? Mine had a 5 1/2 barrel.
Yep...sure miss it...........sigh

Received the 1862 today and it is in even better shape than they said on the auction. It is like new. It is a neat Little revolver. Light weight with a small grip frame. Be a good little gun to carry but i don't think i will keep it. Too small for me.

I have a pair of Uberti 1862 Police Models with four and a half inch barrels. Friend has one with 6 1/2" bbl. I got mine in early 1970s, hers at gunshow around 2002, older gun. Nice little guns, good back up guns for era.

Rebel: When you first posted, you said it would have a 6 1/2 inch barrel but that most of the ones you've seen were 5 1/2 inch guns.

So, now that you have it, what length barrel does it have? Also, what are the letters in the rectangular box (indicating when it was made)?

Zonie :)
