Does anybody have an opinoin on the uberi hawken,I am thinkin real hard of ordering me one in 54 cal monday.Dixie is out of them does anybody know of another source.I know the lyman GPRs are popular but I like the browned barrel and furniture on the uberti. :thanks:

Yup I've had one of the older ones for over 20 years .
It's a tack driver! Mine takes .520 or .526 round ball depending on patch . Little heavier than Great Plaines . Great Gun You Betcha. Nope she ain't fer sale . :)
 :imo:

I have one - probably 15 years old. Very accurate and flat shooting with 90 grs FFg and .520 round ball. It is heavy to lug around but shoots well.

Add my good reviews to those above. I've had my Santa Fe for about 15 years and it still shoots much better than I do. I use 50 gr. FFFg for 25 and 50 yards and step it up to 65 for 100 yards.

Had I not already had a Lyman GPR built from kit, which BTW I browned the barrel and furniture on mine, I would be considering the Uberti--as I believe it is a good piece. Some of my muzzleloading shooting associates have them and they appear to be attractive looking, dependable, and accurate. (what more could u want?) Though by now, I have gotten SO accustomed to the Lyman and would NEVER part with it (or the matching pistol that I will have from the kit that I bought).

I will try to see if I can find another vendor for you. DGW isn't my favourite places to deal with, but they are "big enough" that they CAN stock items that many places have NEVER even heard of. Sad but true...

Good Luck! I think you'd be pleased with either of those guns should you opt for a Lyman instead of the Uberti.

I got one of the earlier models about a year ago. It's marked as a .54, but is actually a .53. Beautiful gun. One of these days I'll work out a load for it. What do you use in yours?

Truth be told, haven't fired it more than half a dozen times as yet, due to regressing to flintlock about the same time. Can only use one at a time... :)

I was looking around for a sante fe hawken in .54 last year and I never found one. I even e-mailed Uberti and asked them how I could get one. They e-mailed me back and said that they currently were not making any and they were not for sure when they would be making anymore. But if you look around you might find a used one. Awhile back I saw a couple on track of the wolfs web sight. I saw one at a gun shop awhile back in a .50 and I must say she was pretty sweet. Anyway good luck in finding one, Dew

I picked up a Santa Fe Uberti Hawken a couple of months ago in a out of town gunshop. The fellow there was more than happy to sell it cheap as he said anything blackpowder moved slow in his shop.

The barrel on the one I picked up had been browned but whoever had browned it did not do a good job. It was more of a brown/purple color. I sanded the barrel and rebrowned it with Laurel Mountain Forge browning solution and it now looks great.

As the others on the board have said about theirs, mine is really a .53 caliber. Compared to other reproductions, they are good looking rifles.

I own one, I bought used and as stated the limitation is me. Jedediah Starr Trading Company in Farmington MI may be a source. They stock the .520 balls all the time, as he sold quite a few of the Santa Fe models in the past. If they dont stock them they may be able to point you in the right direction. My contact information is at work right now,but their website is jedediah-starr.com.Hope this helps.
