uberti hawkins

I heard something about it a few months back but haven't seen anything since. I have had an Uberti Santa Fe Hawken for over twenty years. I still shoots center after all those years of use. The only time I shot a 50 on a 25 yard six bull was done with this rifle.

I remember these things from the 80's. I never owned one, as I made my own rifles,but some of my friends that I shot with did. I would say the the factory rifle had about the same wood workmanship as a GPR. Wood sticking well above the parts usually, poor shaping. However the lock was good, the barrel was very good and it had steel furniture pretty much like a Hawken. It occurred to me that if you bought the kit and did a better job of subtle shaping and finishing , this would be a rifle worth far more than the finished rifle offered. One of my buddies that had good skills did this and produced a rifle that was accurate, reliable, and in terms of look, though not quite a Hawken, was a very credible plains rifle. Quite the equal of a good custom.
TOW in fact, for a while,Shipped curly maple to Uberti and had them made for them as a kit. And the lock was listed in their catalog as a one for custom Hawkens.

P.S. If it's ever offered in the same quality it once was, buy the kit and finish it yourself. You'll have a rifle that will trounce a GPR or TC in both looks and performance. By the way, they were .52 cal.

they where a .53 cal not a .52 cal the new ones are a true .54 and they do a .50 cal aswell they have blued barrel and color case meatle parts and walnut stock. they are not as good as the old ones.they sell them here in oz and nz.heres a sitejust clik on rifles then uberti the hawken is at the bottom of the page.

I found this old post on the Uberti Hawken 50 cal.

I just acquired one and I am looking for any information I can find about it.
