I managed to talk myself out of a Walker by way of the annoying loading lever drop and serious weight problem. But so far, I haven't been able to talk myself out of a Second Dragoon as my next caplock (next year or so, after I build my Kentucky flint horse pistol) Somebody tell me why I should not buy this pistol?

Yeah, I read that article, too. I need one of those Kentucky flint horse pistols to go with my others:

Do you mind sharing the details of your build? I've got a shotgun project in the works right now, and a couple of repairs that need to be done soon, but I'm going to have to start assembling the parts for the horse pistol soon. What lock & barrel do you plan to use, if you don't mind?

Oh, and as for the Dragoon: oh, for Pete's sake, buy it.

I see no reason not to buy it. As long as you want a 4lb revolver.

Although if it was me i'd get the 3rd Dragoon. It has all the improvements to the Dragoon series.

btw With max loads the Dragoons have been known to drop the lever too. It's easier to fix than the Walker, but it's still there. Colt was still learning, and Uberti copied the faults in all the guns he makes. You want it real? You get it with Uberti. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Didn't see the article. What gunrag was it in?
I'm planning on building the Traditions Kentucky kit in flint as my first flint gun. http://www.possibleshop.com/pistol-kit.html

Gotta start somewhere, I guess.
I know there are much better gun kits out there, but since this will be my first single shot pistol as well as my first flinter, I figure I might need to practice.....

I actually prefer the squareback trigger guard on the 2nd over the 3rd with the rounded one.

The loading lever drop is fixed with a small blue rubber band, or if you want to be HC, a small piece of twine. Or you can tighten the screw on the lever. The Dragoon is just a few ounces less than the Walker. They both come-in at over four pounds empty. I wear both "in the leather" at the range. Only take 'em off to shoot sitting, kneeling or prone rile positions.

Neither of them is a "Newbie's" gun. With either 45 grains in the Dragoon or 52 grains in the Walker, these Horse Pistols are so accurate that they can win competitions "out-of-the-box" . The longer sight picture of the Walker far outweighs any down-side of the weight or the lever drop IMHO. And the holes that they both make in paper look like wad-cutters made 'em they're SO ROUND!

An Extra Belt Notch Is All It Takes To Hold-Up (2) Horse Pistols :haha:

That's a damn good question. Now I can't find it. I thought it was in Muzzle Blasts, but not so. It was about a pre-CW era government issue flintlock pistol called a horse pistol. Gotta find that article.
