Instead of looking for a kit, I've decided to roll my own. Caliber .54 - .62 with .62 being the likely choice.

I'm trying to get a inter-library loan of Underhammer Guns 1960 by Herschel Logan to see what kind of variations existed.

Who has recievers currently? and has anyone scratch built their reciever and care to share construction details.

Thanks,

Clutch

I know there are a few here who have made them from scratch. John Taylor to name one. I saw it and it looks wonderful. Someone recently posted that Muzzleloader supply carries the actions. I went there and typed Underhammer in the search. They carry them. I ordered one for my next project. I'm not sure how many FW have left but give him a PM. If you build one please post the progress as some of us are Underhammer fans. I for one find the process facinating. :hatsoff:

Oh, FW and I both have that book. It's mostly on history. There are some nice black and white photos too.

I put in a request to borrow book from MSU library. I'd like to see if a particular pattern strikes my fancy.

My uncle built a full stocked underhammer which doesn't seem to be the norm. One of these days I'm going to have to help him post some pictures of it.

Thanks,

Here is what I ordered. I ordered that action I was talking about. I also asked them if they could pick out a halfstock that would fit with the barrel channel cut for 1". They are doing it! They are going to cut the stock in half so I can use the back half for the action and the front half for the front stock. I'm sure it can be done with a full stock too. :hatsoff:

Im not sure I understand, are they going to cut the upper/lower tang out for you and the hammer trigger space, thisw is the one John H. said was a real bear to do, but look at his 50 plus pounder and stock too, if it isnt perfect hes not done. I have about 20 something built frames for H+As. FRED :hatsoff:

Nah Fred their just going to cut the stock thick enough to match the frame. Inletting will be my problem. Fortunately, I have an idea where I can get it done. Or if worst comes to worst, I have a wood chisel and dremil. :rotf: I'm pretty careful with a chisel. The dremil is another story.

Good luck guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ya got me some rods comeing????????????????? I want to post 2 shots I made today, but NO one would belive me, I thought smooth bore was a big single ball shootgun..NOT True at all!! FRED :hatsoff:

I currently have two rods that I cut. One will definitely work. The other is about 1/4" short. A suggestion that was given to me was to tack weld a nut to the end of them. Might work and make up that 1/4". :hatsoff:

SEND THEM PLEASE, TO MUCH i CANT KEEP UP! fred :rotf: :hatsoff:
