I finished the Lyman pouch from the "things went wrong" topic. Somehow during the wet molding process things stretched just the right way and I didn't need to do anything else to the flap. I sanded the edges as best as they would allow. They are not perfect, but better than they were. I dyed the edges black as I'm thinking that in the future I may add black goatskin leather edge binding to the flap.
These were taken during wet molding,

I wet the bag, it actually held water,

And lined it with plastic bags that I filled with birdshot.
Today I warmed the bag in the oven with some other new leather items that needed greasing and applied a generous amount of Track's mink oil. Then I put the bags of birdshot back in while the leather and grease cooled.
Finished,

Very glad things worked out so well! The important lesson was you didn't give up and learned more from making a mistake than had things gone perfectly, even if you never make one of these pouches again. I do like the rolled edge you made on the front of the pouch, that's a nice touch. There is something special about making one's own accoutrements that one just does not get from buying them from someone else.

Thank you Gus, I appreciate the compliments. I think the rolled edge looks better and has practical purposes.

While there is something special about making one's own gear, and in its use, I do think it is important to keep in mind that the culture which many of us are trying to emulate was a string consumer culture. Much of what we make for ourselves, and too often take pride in its "roughness or unrefined look (not really the adjectives looking for)," would have been purchased.
