Curious if anyone knows much about these. By the end of the year id like to get an authentic land pattern Bess and an American continentally marked Charleville. From my understanding i can get nice examples that ARENT affiliated with the war around the 4-5k figure, but anytime US is attached it tends to get in the 7-12k range

(A) Were all 63/66 charleville's accepted into the continental army marked US? Ive seen US rear of the lock as well as various inscriptions in and around the butt

(B) Is it a rabbit hole and fairly dangerous to trust these markings? As we all know these items are incredibly expensive. I wouldn't be surprised if auction houses incorrectly mark these

for A above. i have seen and have many more 63/66 villes unmarked than marked. the only other thing i think i know is that many were marked after the war. also the larger stamping is supposed to be the earlier one. for b ABOVE IF ITS WORTH MONEY SOMEONE WILL TRY TO SCREW YOU. I WOULD THINK THERE ARE MANY FAKES AROUND. THERE WAS A GUY AT THE BALTIMORE SHOW THAT HAD SEVERAL OF THESE GUNS, HE WAS GONNA WRITE A PAPER ON THE STAMPINGS. DONT KNOW IF HE EVER DID. MAYBE CHECK THE NET.
