Howdy friends,
I recently aquired a US morked (surcharged) French musket that I believe to be Rev War used.
Can anyone reccomend a good web site or any good books on this subject.
Thanks

Would be good to see some pictures.

One good book that has a lot of info is "Weapons of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann.

The majority of the "US" stamped arms were stamped post the American Revolution. Neuman's book was published in the days before much good information came out on the subject of "US" marked foreign arms so the majority of his information has been been proven inaccurate. The arms may have been used during the Revolution but the markings ("US" and "U. States") were applied by the new government post war.

For accurate information on the subject see American Military Shoulder Arms: From the 1790s to the End of the Flintlock Period by George D. Moller. Moller's information is completely up to date and is taken from sources that Neuman did not have access to.

It could very well be after the Rev War as the US copied the Charlieville musket for thirty years.
The 1816 pattern copies the Charlieville right down to the Metric screws. The muskets the French gave to the US were 1766 worn out Charlievilles, they did not have "US" stamped on the barrel.
