For interest. Here in South Africa, we get 2 main BP's. One being a true BP, and the other a substitute.

The first is called ZAR and is in my mind a good powder; low fouling but lighter in weight when compared to say Wano and also in fps. This comes in 4, 3, 2, 1.5 and 1fG.

The logo is the coat of arms of the old Boer Transvaal republic.

The other powder is Obatex with comes in 3, 2 and 1.5fG. This seems to be partly synthetic due to the different pressure peaks, and when dissolved in water one can see the fine flakes of metal.

Historic powders are:

Sannadex, which is pink in colour and extruded dextrose derived and some sort of ferric oxide. It worked very well and gave low fouling. It was very popular and a lot cheaper than the then available imported Wano and Swiss. This went off the market in about 2010. There after the BP market fell away due to the price of imported powders and availability of them, plus legislation.

Buschalk was a BP. Buschalk was just black powder with a binder. It wasn't long on the market.

G20 was a very good powder similar in performance to Wano but low fouling. I've actually found a few tins and am working through it. It came in what seems a 2ffG sizing.

ML1 was another powder made locally by a AECI. I never actually used it but the feedback from an old shooter ism about the same as G20 but lots of fouling.

If any governmental body anywhere can discourage of curtail interest in shooting of any type, the young'uns coming up will lose interest (according to the anti-sport legislators) and the hobby could dry up. All must encourage youth activities and safe sporting.
