G'day,

Just thought I would let you know that I have finally made some time and went out and shot my new Le Page Flintlock pistol in .45 calibre smoothbore. What a blast - pun intended.

For the technical types I have only shot it so far with one load which was: Wano FFFg - 34 gns, .464 cast ball - Pedersoli's mould, .010 unlubed patches from Cains Outdoor, patch lubed before each shot with Castrol PH grease - small amount rubbed in, primed with Wano FFFFg. Only shot around 8 balls but the group was 8 ring size (25 M ISSF pistol target) at 25 metres shot single handed as per our competition requirements. The "out of the box" centre of group was on the 8/9 ring at 5 o'clock with a centre aim.

I had no misfires and the gun felt great. Frankly, given my shooting skills these days (old age is catching up), the gun proved to be damn near as accurate as the rifled version of the Le Page which I also have (.36 cal percussion). :hatsoff:

Well now you know. :redthumb:

Glad to hear you're having fun! Awww heck - how could it not be fun... it's blackpowder!

Waaaiitaaaminutehere, You're shooting a .464 round ball with a .010 patch in a 45 cal, smoothbore pistol :shocking:????
Either I'm missing something, or I'm about to learn a trick here. Somebody set me straight, PLEASE!!!

Nope. He meant .464.

I am using the Pedersoli mould recommended by the manufacturer.

If you want to know more then look up the Le Page Standard Flintlock on the Pedersoli site then look at the recommended ball/mould.

Cheers from down under.

Aussie Bob,
You dont have to do "according to the book". Myself and my friends is using .375 bullet for the Le Page .36 percussion-pistol(.354 recommended by Pedersoli) And with success! No patch of course.

G'day Arilar

I absolutely agree with your comments however I often start with the manufacturer's recommendation. In the case of my Le Page 36 percussion I use a .350 with a .010 patch and 12 gns of FFFg. It works for me and it is entirely different to the load you use yet we are both happy with our own situation. Mind you with a lot more powder it is still fun to shoot but I am looking for a target load to win competitions with. :m2c:

Well AussieBob,
Myself only target-shooter according to MLAIC-regulation. Nowadays only competing in rifle-muskets-events. With the .375 bullet in .36 Le Page I managed to become Swedish Champion far back (1985) with modest result 95p.A friend with same loading and pistol became silvermedallist in European Champs in Spain 1995 with 97 or 98 points (cant remember exact). I remember Helmut Mohr didnt "approve" to our way of loading the Le Page ::.
So, check it out, may be a "winner" :results:.
