Made myself a warm sheepskin vest for those winter days when the wolf howls at the door. It worked very well while sitting on the ground waiting for deer last season. Dyed it with walnut hulls collected from my yard. And the walnut fudge warmed me from the inside.

Yes, it is. It is nice to have on a really frigid morning sitting quietly waiting for deer to move, but if you are moving around it can get too warm pretty quickly.

okay so I really like the vest. How many skins did you need 1 or 2? The measurements and stitching I can figure out easy enough. Nice project coming up I figure.

I was lucky to find one really big skin and eked it out, but I think it would take 2 regular size sheepskins. Depends on your size, of course. Here's a shot of the vest in action on a 22° windy day. It works.

I hope you had hunter orange over the vest while deer hunting! :surrender: Many years ago I went deer hunting at a coworkers farm. When we got there he insisted on wearing a sheep skin lined coat with only an orange hat. When he got warm from driving he took off the hat and stuck it in his pocket. Then to make matters worse he took a "short cut" fell down the hill. He would have gotten shot except for the fact I only shoot when absolutely sure what I am shooting at! :surrender:

Oh, yeah. When I decide to go colonial in the deer woods I wear my full outfit but always have an orange vest and orange hat. The picture I just posted was from a rabbit hunt on my own farm after deer season. In Kentucky you must wear orange even for small game hunting if deer season is in at the same time.
