Getting close to finshing my hawken T/C mutt. This is a hawken/renigade/ curly maple/pewter nose pcs rifle. It was a little difficult, but want to made the TOW vincent half stock. They say it is one of their easier rifles. Have anyone made it and can you verify the difficulty level?

i built one and it is one of TOW easier kits but take a close look at the butt plate it is made to be shot off the arm not the sholder

If the stock your buying isn't pre cut for the buttplate, and you don't mind having the gun you like rather than what others think it should be, just go to a TOTW catalog and find a buttplate you like for it.

One of the nice things about building one of these Custom rifles is it IS a Custom Rifle with the length of pull and the style of buttplate YOU want.

When you order it, just be sure to tell them you do NOT want the cut for the buttplate done. :)

Zonie, from what I can see in the pic. It loks like a regular shoulder length rifle. I really am puzzled about the arm held thing.

These rifles are meant to be shot just like any other rifle. Buy it, build it, you'll be fine.

I wouldn't let the crescent butt plate put me off. Shooting off the arm just means that the plate nestles into the socket between the deltoid and upper biceps. It is very comfortable and natural. As a rule, if you try to shoot with the butt against your shoulder the rifle wants to tilt out of the vertical.

If we are looking at the same rifle in the TOTW catalog, you will notice the butt plate is very concave. In fact, the upper area sticks out about 1 1/2 inches behind the center of the plate.
If you try to shoulder this type of butt plate in the manner normally used, that projecting point will poke a hole in your shoulder before you even pull the trigger!
Rifles with this style of butt plate were positioned so that the concave area fits onto your upper arm with the lower area in your armpit and the upper projection going back over your shoulder. That is what is meant by "shooting it off the arm".

These Ohio style rifles were usually of smaller caliber (.45 or less) so recoil isn't a big concern.

From the picture shown, I get the feeling that the stock is pre-cut for this buttplate.
If you want to use a different, flatter style of buttplate, you might be happier with a kit from Pecatonica River. They have about the same kit and they usually don't pre cut the butt of the stock unless you pay them extra for it.
Because it is not pre-cut, you can install whatever shape you like. :)

Hi Navajo I built a Vincent from TOW and I think it was pretty easy to build. I did make alot of mistakes during the process but nothing that I couldn't hide a little bit. I shot it this weekend actually at a shoot and really like it alot. I made it very light (taking out alot of the extra wood) and it weighs 6.12 lbs. Great for off hand shooting and would be a pleasure to hunt with. It handles well and it is also very accurate, mine is in .45 with a green mtn barrel and 36"/13/16. DO IT!

PS It may be made to shoot off the arm but I shoulder mine and I have no problem with it. I am six foot 200lbs.

I was looking at the rifle again and I was compairing it with my traditions Crockett. The butt stocks look simular. Am I correct in this? Really from what I can see, it looks kinda like the crockett may have been modeled after this rifle. What do you think?

Nice job :applause: !
