Start with some homework, Check with Dixon's for Chuck Dixon's Building book, or check with Track for other building books or DVD's to give yourself an idea of what's ahead. Read Mike Brooks building post on this site for more help. If you decide to build there is an order to how you progress with a pre carve parts set. If the lock mortice is cut, you do that first at least 95%, if it's not cut you finish the barrel inlet. But first of all do the research. Good luck

My Dad built his one and only gun a Vincent, he bought it from Golden Age about 9-10 yrs. ago. They closed not real long after he bought it. He had never built a gun and I think he did a real good job of it. Since I was around to help, if that is what you want to call it, we both learned as he went. For us, the hard part was the pouring of the pewter nose cap. But, after you do one, you just seem to have found out, that we were making a mountain out of a mole hill.

I am excited to get started but it may have to take a back seat for a little while, to many other fatherly and husbandlly duties.

We had 2 full stock Vincents at the show in Marietta this past weekend as well as a very nice display of half stocks.

Quite a few years ago my Wife And I drove out to Ohio to purchase a full stock Vincent, plus pieces and parts. Golden Age Arms had just moved from Ashley to Delaware.
Jim was very kind and knowledgeable; and also let us hang around his shop for a spell. He had a good collection of Tansel powder horns; and lots of other mouth watering stuff.Top quality things.
The Vincent I made had interchangeable locks; both percussion and flint. The wood was outstanding!!Beautiful thin, curved butt stock - totally classic gun..
Think I paid about $425 back then for the whole rig.
I don't have it; ended up in a gun shop in Mass.

One bit of advice - be VERY careful around the toe area of the stock. It's thin there.
Ya will have a handsome shooter when yer done..

Take yer time on this; it's worth it.
Thanks for this topic; it brings back a lot of nice memories. :hatsoff:

Hope this helps

Hey guys:
I ended up with this kit, its a beauty. Bruce Jones actually built the lock. Not alot has to be done but I'm having Charlie Oakes finish it up.
Its a sweet little thing and I can't wait.
