After a week of hunting with the shotgun every day, I was aggravated over trying to find and keep everything straight in the field. I headed out to the garage and made this. This one should fit 20 guage wads and use a simple cork closure. What do you think.

I had not noticed that the hole in the end did not show in this picture. It is there tho! I have this one uploaded and I am not going to go resize and upload another just to show the hole in the end.

Should work. How do you get them out? Is the hole big enough that they just fall out? Is it for thick overpowder wads? I glue my overpowder wads to my cushion wads before lubing the cushion wad. That way there is one less loading step. I keep mine in a fairly heavy leather, flat bottom bag in my pouch so i can just reach in and grab one. Same thing with my thin overshot wads in a seperate bag. Keep the shot in an Irish Style shot flask that i clip to my belt on the left side, out of the way.

They will just fall out. I made one for my 12 today. I am waiting for my wife to get home and find the big bag of corks where ever it is hidden to finish it. I figured I could just put overpowder cards in there for my use. I split a part off one of them for my overshot card anyway most of the time. If I was using the factory over shot cards, I would just stack them alternating in the tube where I would get one of each off the top. The one I just finished holds 15 of the nitro cards I am using, so if I am spliting them for an overpowder card also, that is still 11 shots. I am going after Doves tomorrow, so I will have to refill it a couple of times if I get lucky! I quit using cushion or lubed wads in this gun. It patterns better without them and reloading it has not been a problem so far. If you spot an old box of the Nitro cards they used to make for shot shell reloading, grab them. They are the best I have found so far!

This is the one I just finished for the 12 guage. The cork stopper was a pain to pull if it got too tight, so it needed a knob. I cut this one out of brass but it is really too heavy to be what you want. I will most likely cut a wooden plug and make a leather oring type seal to make it fit well and to be all period materials. Anyway, here is the first one I finished. The picture shows the soft flaw in the wood that I ignored since this is basically an experiment.

Now I am thinking about powder tubes!

Isn't Starr the one that recommends using three of those cardxs over the powder and one over the shot?

I have 3000 of the thick nitro cards to use up before I need to look up info on the other cards I have, but thanks anyway. I read the Star material several times in the past. Right now I just bought a 10 pound bag of #5 steel shot for use on the conservation areas here. I am using the steel shot cups that you have to cut down the side to determine how fast you want them to open. They also have rings so you can cut them to the weight load you want and then tailor it to open the way you want. I am avoiding the melted plastic issue by using my normal nitro card first with the cup on top of it. Works really well with BB's, but I have yet to pattern the #5's.

Silly me! I just tossed and old Sucrets can in the fire and let the modern paint job burn off. Can't let them heat too hot or too long or you have a really twisted box on your hands! Little oil from the lube and my sweaty little hands and voila, instant "Japanned" wad box! Please notice that at no time do my hands leave my wrists!! :haha:

I use a box like that to make char and to carry it in. Eventually, I will use antler to make a final version of the container with a better plug. I am experimenting right now. Should it have a groove for hanging from a lace? I may make up a set with about ten powder loads, 10 shot loads, a container for the card wads, a place for the actual measure, and a bag designed for it all. Tools are no fun if you don't use them!
