Does anyone have a good recipe for wad lube? I've nosed around online and haven't found much. Suggestions for a mix that would enable me to shoot some bird loads? I'm assuming the recipe would be the same.

I believe that a common wad lube is a 50/50 mix of olive oil and melted bees wax. Some use more of one or the other. You can sub peanut oil or something similar. Some seem to think that it's a waste to dip the whole wad in the lube and only lube the edges. I feel that if you dip the whole wad, the heat and pressure generated when you make the shot will extrude the lube from the wad as it travels down the bore helping to keep the fowling soft. I don't know if it really does or not but I'm going to keep doing it that way. :haha:

Nearly any vegetable oil will work straight. Just dip the wads till damp and let them dry a bit between two paper towels. You don't need wet, just enough inside to be flexible. You can use any commercial lube or rendered lard of most any varmint as well. Oils are bit quicker to use.

Try Spence's routine...he's one smart cookie!
