Ok getting ready for some range time tomorrow with the Thunder'er. Going to try .715 balls with a .010 patch and a wad between the powder and patch this time. Before I go lubing up a bunch of wads, which one should I be using? I have both the fiber wad and nitro card wads. Should I be using just the fiber wad here?

Try just a nitro, then just a fiber, then a nitro and a fiber, and see which works best. Also try the patched ball with no wad. Sometimes that is what works best. Have fun.

Ya never know. Mine is burning up patches even with the wads, but accuracy is good. Just gives you an excuse to do more shooting trying all the combos.

:hmm: Not happy at all with the .010 patches I have here that are for 60 - 69 cal, just to damn small to deal with in a 12 ga so I measured one of my cleaning patches and they mic at .015. Just lubed one up and it loaded not to hard, just right actually. They are 100% cotton so should do fine as a patch.

Have you got any .690 rd balls? If so, give them a try with a thicker,(maybe denim or leather,) patch. You might try some thin leather with the .715's as it compresses good.

A piece of hornet's nest works great. Make sure the hornets aren't home first.

Also try putting a lubed patch down before the patched ball. The extra layer of lubed cloth will help as well.
