Hi Everyone,
Just got a Walker for my birthday. I remember reading not too long ago about modifiing the loading lever retainer spring so that the lever doesn't drop with heavy charges, but I can't seem to find the post in the archives. Could someone describe the modification again and if possible include a drawing or picture?
Thanks In Advance,
Dale

The lower end of the retaining spring has a small notch or hook on it facing forward.

The loading lever has a milled slot thru it that the outer end of the ram fits in.

The spring hook latches into the forward side of this slot where it breaks out into the curved contour of the loading lever to keep the ram in place.

If this little hook does not have a sharp corner on the forward side of the hook, or if the springs notch isn't low enough, it will not latch the loading lever securely in place.

Using a very fine toothed flat file, the face of the hook can be filed down, away from the barrel to produce a sharp edge at the front.
Filing it down will also allow it to engage the corner of the loading lever slot a little better.

When filing, make sure you don't cut the vertical arm of the spring because that would weaken it.

Also, make sure the filed surface isn't tilted downward away from the barrel. It should be parallel with the barrel or tilted slightly upward so that the sharp edge of the hook (not the hooks face) is the only thing that latches onto the loading lever.

Here's a pic of how I modified mine:

I have had a Walker since 1994. The loading lever would fall every time it was fired. So I put it up , and didn't shoot it anymore. After reading this thread, with Zonies and Mukluks posts, I filed the retaining pin like the picture and the results are astounding! Thanks guys! JA
