Took the Colt Walker out today for a spin. Tried both 50 grains and 55 grains of 3Fg Goex. With the 50 grain charge I got tighter groups and the loading lever hardly dropped down at all. At 55 grains the groups opened-up some and the loading lever nearly always fell down during recoil. I also had to use the lever to compress the wonder-wad on top of the 55 grain charge, then put the balls into each chamber with a second pass.

Guess that I'll stick with my time-proven 50 grain loading! But I'll tell ya, looking at the business end of that huge cylinder with those balls on top of that 55 grain loading just clearing the cylinder face, is AWESOME!

Did he fire 6 shots or only 5? Do you feel lucky? :haha:

 I cant wait to get my Walker out again this weekend! Last time out I did some messing with paper cartridges. Not next time though :bull: . They sucked!

Glad you got to get out!

.........How is the recoil with that load?

Recoil at the 50 grain level is moderate, with the 55 grain charge being noticeably more...I think that's why the loading lever kept falling down! The recoil is stiffer!

The Walker's recoil at 50 grains feels like my .44 Mag loaded with .44 Spls. It lets you know it's there, but you can shoot it all day long without a problem :)

At either loading the Walker makes perfectly round holes, unlike any other C&B revolver that I've ever seen

Howdy!

I had the Walker out this past Sunday. Mine seems best with 45gr. Sportsman's Warehouse near me is closing and they had Speer .457 for $3/100 balls. I bought them out. I have a Lee .457 mould that I haven't used yet!! Their last day is this Thursday and I may buy lead ammo is left, even if it ends up in the melting pot!
