I've had the chance to shoot my Navy a few times and am really enjoying it! Lateley I have been using 15g of pyrodex and 15g of cream of wheat. Topping off the ball with lube. Had a friend who got to go to a big muzzleloading shop say the guy there recommended topping off with a bit of wax from a toilet bowl ring. Anyone ever tried this?

Those toilet bowl rings aren't real wax any more. They have other stuff in them and are a real mess to work with. Fouling with them may be real bad too.

I bet the wax would be a real pita to clean up without resorting to some sort of petroleum product to desolve it.
Don't get me wrong, wax plugs are often shot under bullets in BPCR ammo but there most users expect to have to use petroleum products to clean with.
Bore fouling is a bigger issue with the BPCRs than it is with your pistol too.

IMO, the need to only use soap and water to clean up the gun at the end of the day is a good thing. Soap and water will clean up the vegetable products like Crisco etc but won't have much (if any) effect on thick wax.

Zonie :)

I use home made bore butter. The main ingrediant is beeswax. I like this because I can change the consistancy of it by increasing or decreasing the amount of beeswax added to it. Winter you would want it less dense and summer more dense. It cleans up fine and keeps my pistol from jamming up like others have complained about. :v
I have found that beeswax is the only wax that I would use. A little beeswax goes a long way when you make your own bore butter.

I'ts called bolwax and I use it along with parafin and olive oil to make my lube pill recipe...I can shoot Rems or Colts all day without fouling binding up my Revs. I use a .44 or .36 cal cutter after I melt down the mix about 1/8 or a 1/4 inch think depending on what I wanna use. Put lube pill between powder and ball. Cleans up with dishsoap and water...I use scaldin' hot water myself.
Keep on a shootin'.

Just curious. Have you had any problems with that mix melting on a hot day and contaminating the powder charge?
