I am planning a trip to Wayne county PA to hunt the flintlock only late season. I know there is a couple of State Game Land plots open to the public in the northeast portion of this county but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these lands? (SGL 299, 070, or 159)
Should I expect to find allot of other hunters on these lands? Should I expect to find deer?
By the way if anyone were interested in participating in this hunt, I would definitely consider a partner. I get the feeling that my regular hunting partner is going to bail out on me.

MO, I used to have a cabin up in the area your talking (about 15 yrs. ago). Any way, it was a good place to hunt, lots of good sized deer. There shouldn't be too many hunters there this time of the year, and I would definatly get a partner to hunt with me as it is loaded with Mountain Laurel and is easy to get turned around in if ya get my meanin. However good luck and bag a biggun...Bud

Hey White Buffalo,
Just got back from the holidys and I did get to hunt Pike county in PA during the flint season and boy did I have a great hunt. Saw an 8 pointer chasing 2 does but he was out of range. I tracked him for about an hour and as I came over this ridge at the top of the Mt. there was a deer in my range. I couldn't see it's head so I didn't shoot. As I waited, it took a step out from behind the trees and boy was I excited to see a massive 10 pointer!
The deer was still in range but its vitals were behind the tree so I didn't shoot. As I waited for it to step out from the trees
I squated down to get into shooting position when my water bottle in my pouch made a clicking noise against my leg. Needless to say he didn't stick around to find out what that unusual noise was. When I tell the story some people say I should have taken the gut or rear end shot but I just couldn't do it. I am questioning whether or not I did the right thing by not taking the shot but it's all too late now anyway. The next day was so windy that I only knocked up one deer. I need to go back. What a great hunt.  Hope to hunt with you some day.

ya did good not taking the shot in my book....i was waiting fer ya to call me....so i thought ya didn't git down here to hunt....ya back in vermont now???.........bob

Yes I am back in VT.
Sorry I didn't call you to hunt but I left PA on Tuesday night and I recalled that you were only available to hunt on Wed.
I am trying to get back to PA this weekend. If so, I plan on going to wayne county. Let me know if you are interested.

mighty oak :{

i just have to ask you why you think that you should have taken that shot ?? is it because the deer was a 10 point and that made it worth taking a poor shot and more than likely wounding it? you seem to have decided to question your shot after somebody else told you that you should have shot ? i had to give you credit for not shooting , now i'm taking it back. would it really been worth it to wound that animal? :nono: :nono:

Hey Mighty Oak, I saw three 10pts this year, one in Vt.,one came up behind me on stand in Ma. and one standing on the road after i hunted all day in the same spot! No shots at any, but enjoyed knowing they're out there.

Who hasn't done that? The season ends. Freezer's got lots of empty racks. All the Ghosts of Shots Presented start gathering around the bed as you lie waiting for sleep. The saddest words in any language: "It might have been."

what ide like to know is where you got the bindings for those snow shoes that are on your web page cause I need some ,snow shoes are good bindings are not

The way I see it is "Nothing is worth wounding an animal especialy one as majestic as this one was.I know I did the right thing and I am sure I would do the same if the situation presented itself again. Believe me, I have passed up many shots when they weren't clean. So many times have I passed that my hunting buddies don't think that "I really want to make the kill, and in a way they are right. For me it's about the experience of being out there more than the kill itself.Don't get me wrong, I have made my share of meat over the years however I am particular about how and when I do it. I just hope I get another chance to test my will.I guess this is what hunting is all about.
We all have to live with our choices and I am fine with mine whether you want to give me credit :v or not.

I hear ya Big John. Thats what it's all about. I can't wait to see my next 10 pointer. I just hope I dont have to wait as long as I did to see this one.
By the way unfortunatly I will not be attnding the Smugglers Biathlon due to family obligations.
This means I may be able to attend your event.

I just got a room in Port Jervis. I couldnt find anything closer this time of year.

Thank you stump killer. I am sure we all have second guesed ourselves this late in the season but I am fine with my decision especialy since I am getting out for one more chance. Looks like I will be heading toward your neck of the woods this weekend in hopes of filling those empty shelves.

I assume you are refering to the shoes in the photo called "Tools of the trade" These dark brown bindings on the bearpaw shoes are not mine. Mine are the ones to the left of them. I believe Mikes Country Store in Rutland Vt has good snowshoe bindings. His information is in the sponsors section of our site. By the way do you like our site? www.svtpb.org
