All the original English military weapons have the head of the wedge on the left side, including the 1776 rifle, Baker rifle, Brunswick rifle, Elliot carbine, Paget carbine. All the English sporting rifles and shotguns have the head of the wedge on the left side, including Whitworth, Henry and Gibbs. Just looked thru the book on Lancaster gunsmiths by James Whisker and the few guns that have wedges, the head of the wedge is on the left side, including Leman, Hoak and James Gibbs.
