This is a traditional style shooting bag that was, and still is today, used by shooters of the style of muzzle loading rifle that was common in America from the very earliest colonial days right up to the present day. The bag was/is used to carry the essentials needed for a day at a shooting match or out hunting for game to feed the family. Typically the bag would contain lead balls (the “bullets”), cloth to wrap around the ball (patching) and usually a piece of tow or other lower grade of cloth used to wipe the fouling from the barrel after shooting. There would also be an extra flint in the case of a flintlock rifle or extra percussion caps in the case of a caplock rifle. Also to be found there would be a few necessary tools for servicing the rifle in the field.

The design of this bag is very typical of those from years ago. The design and style of bags varied from time period to time period and from the geographic locations of it's origin. However, the overall designs varied little with the variations representing the preferences of the maker. While some bags were made by professional leather crafters, most were typically made by the actual user or someone in the community who provided the service.

This bag is put together much as it might have been done by a farmer or hunter. Made with the basic tools on hand or available for leather crafting. The stitching is all done by hand in a saddle stitching method employing two needles with one needle at each end of the thread. I've given this bag a somewhat aged look although it is all new. The bag has been oiled after coloring and is ready for use.

There are two pockets on the inside of the bag to keep various items separate and readily at hand. The strap at it's maximum length is 58” and is 1 1/2” wide. It is adjustable from there to any shorter size desired. I will cut the strap and punch additional holes as needed at the buyers request.

$49 Now $44 TYD any of the 50 states.
