My smooth bore bag has close to 150 round balls of .600 caliber in it right now. I need to take it upon the mountain and get rid of some.

My rifle bag also has about 150 in it also.

If the bags won’t hold up to this, I don’t need them.

Nice! Thanks guys, just got a new one from Rocky Point Leather and was worried a full weighted bag might put stress on the strap. Stupid to worry I guess, just excited over my new bag.
Not stupid, bags can be expensive. I for one do not like to re-purchase items if at all possible.

What one did you get? I have one of theirs and love it.
It’s the one with a moose tooth and a raccoon tail, I love it!

I used to pack around a hundred or more balls than I needed as well as a huge horn full of powder when the most I would use hunting would be 1or 2 shots and maybe 25 or 30 at a match. That's back in the 70's when we were trying to act like real mountain men. Now that I'm older, weaker, and maybe just a little smarter I travel light, real light. That's the same way I keep my bags hung. If I think I might need more for a match it will be in the wagon.

If you have so much stuff in the bag that you're worried about imposing excessive stress on the hanging point of the strap (peg, hook, nail, etc.) then I reckon you got too much stuff in there and need to add a possibles bag to your kit.

Like the others, I restock the bags after putting the clean guns back on the wall. Horns too.

When you hang your shooting bag/possibles bag on the wall at home, do you hang it with your stuff in it?
Yep , its full and ready. Bought it at a rendezvous at Piqua Ohio in the late 90s. Just got a new strap to put on itb. This'll be the third strap but the leather pouch is still good .

I tend to move my stuff around, so no, I don’t leave them in the bag. I have a large old craftsman toolbox that I keep all of my stuff in. When I’m done hunting, everything goes back in the toolbox where I can find it. This keeps me from the inevitable “shoot, it’s in my other bag” and instead I can say “shoot, I left it in the toolbox”….
