I couldn't hold out any longer.....the craving was just too strong. I broke down this morning and bought a brace of '51 Navy revolvers from Cabelas. Why two? Well, Wild Bill carried two.... Oh, and did I mention that I am having a custom, butt-forward rig made up by San Pedro Saddelry? Now all I need is a bunch of wads, .380 round ball and time to figure these beasts out. Hey, even if they don't shoot worth a damn, at least I'll LOOK good!!

BTW, how is the front sight cone attached to the barrel on a '51?

Isn't there a rule that says "anything for which you have a spare will not break"? Sounds like good planning to me. :winking:

I have an Uberti 1851 (I think Cabela's sells Pietta's). The front sight brass cone is just pressed in. I lost mine with the first try on the range never to be found again.

I've got a real Uberti Lemon. Numerous problems, the worse is that the bore for the hammer is set so far back (and subsequently the trigger and boltstop bore) that there is NO thread on the right side, but just a hole to the thread for the left grip frame screw.

During shooting, the loading lever retainer that holds the loading lever just slides out sideways.

The wedge binds the cylinder by just putting some medium thump pressure on it, and after the 1st shot that ignites (it never does it on the first try because the hammer is set too far back), it is already working itself out of the slot.

I only took that thing 3 times out in three years and haven't shot more than 5 cylinders.

My Uberti 1858 New Army and Investarms Rogers & Spencer work flawlessly.

Mossyrock, I've had one about a month now, and think it's the cats a--! Shoots to point of aim at 20 yds., and is ball to carry and shoot! This is my third Pietta and have been satisfied with all! Matter of fact, I sent to Cabelas 2 days ago and will soon have a Remmie Navy, .36. The Navy Colt points like a dream! Enjoy!

You should enjoy them... I have a '51 from cabelas(.44, I know not PC) and it has functioned flawlessly except for jammed cap fragments.

But that could be remedied by either #10's, different brand(s), or cap keepers (my current method).

Have fun... shoot safe...
