And while I am really impressed with the overall quality of all the components I detest the nose cap. The stock comes to an uprupt stop and steps down to the cap. This was something I didn't notice when I ordered it. I lookin for any suggestions on a way to make this look a little better I am right now thinkin about having a custom cap made that will fit flush with the outer part of the stock with a groove for the ram, but I am not sure i'll be able to get something like that. So...any suggestions would be great

Does it look like this one?

Or this? :hmm: I would consider a poured pewter nose cap if you are able,
cuz you can make it as you like it!

Davy

I believe it is the .45 that has that style. Mine is a factory finished .54 and instead of the step the wood is sanded at an angle to meet the cap. The cap is also case hardened steel instead of brass and has angled edges around the front. Cleaner appearance than the brass version in my opinion. Click on this picture of the .50 kit to see an enlarged image, you can see the difference in the shape... http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?products_id=5928

Maybe exchanging it for a larger caliber would be an option? Just a thought...

I had the same problem with a .45 Kentucky flintlock kit from Traditions. The drass cap was to short or the wooden part of the stock to long. So I sanded the wooden step down. It now looks pretty good.

Yup looks just like the pictures, guess I should have payed a little more attention before I ordered, but I think I may have a friend here locally that can fabricate me a new cap that will fit flush to the stock. If not I think I'll sand the stock down to an angle to meet the cap. In my opinion the way the factory does it is not only unattractive, but thier just asking for big chips and splits in the stock

I do much prefer the nose cap on the .54, but alas it doesn't fit with my plan for this particular pistol. I'm makeing a matching pistol to my favorite .45 Penn. Rifle. I'm even gonna add a matching set of german silver inlays so it's gotta be a .45. I guess I'll just have to get creative

Is there a screw hole in that nose cap that attaches the front of the barrel to the stock?
I had a heck of a time with the kit I bought from them.
finally I just dovetailed an under lug into the barrel and pined it.
If you are willing to do that, then buy a different nose cap.
TOW or other supply companies have a nose cap that will fit.
Also remember the stock is left "BIG"... you have plenty of wood to shape to your liking
