this is a small crown branch from an west Australian banksia tree i relay like this wood with its lace pattern this will be a nice knife handle,it has a small gum vein line that i scraped out and filled with epoxy.

That grain pattern reminds me of the elderberry up here in Alaska, but stained from a pale blonde. I've always really liked it, but sad to say, our elderberry is right up there with balsa for hardness. I think yours will make an exceptional knife handle!
 
Madrone (Arbutus menziesii) is very similar. Banksia, no doubt for Sir Joseph Banks.

Banksi is Proteaceae while Madrone is Ericaceae.
