Michigans firearms season got off to a bust four days of rain I decided to empty my gpr this am and clean it up before going out again. with fresh primin it went off immediatly however the gases coming out of the vent hole blew the flint about 20 feet away and smacked into my truck i still aint found it. it wer a new flint too
I used a hammer stall and kept my gloved hand over the lock durin all the rain I doubt if my percussion rifle would have went off

If the flint came out, it was loose. If not everyone would be shooting new flints every shot.

I got skunked too in the rain, but my percussion went off with out a problem when I unloaded at the end of the day. There's always next weekend. Take care and have a safe hunt, Rick.

Just a guess:
With all the rain and humidity the leather (I assume) holding the flint might have softened a little so it was barely holding the flint.
It might pay to retighten the cock screw in weather like that.

I make it a habit to check ALL of the screws and hardware for tightness the morning I shoot just after wiping out the bore. Sometimes mid way through the day.
You would be surprised at how things can loosen up when there going BANG all day....

How's about a thin piece of lead instead of leather to hold the flint?.....ain't got no thin sheet of lead?.....hammer a ball flat. Install flint...spark a couple of times and retighten...it will be there for a long looong time.
