My Early Lancaster build: blank from Pecatonica, 45" Rice swamped 50 cal barrel with sq cut rifling & Siler Deluxe lock. The patch box, eschutcheons, keys, underlugs, nose cap, ferrules, sights, and ramrod (less fabricating ends) all made by Larry (Omha). Aqua Fortis stain with polymerized tung oil finish. About 7.5 pounds

Last photo: Never in my life did I have the first 4 shots come out like this. Benched at 25 yards and zerro sight adjustment. I should have signed up for the lottery that day.

I have 4 Hot Rod TC's. All of them shoot amazing. I've killed record book animals with all of them except my target gun.
If I was pressed hard to only pick one to only hunt with forever it would be my 50 double trigger. If I had to pick which I enjoy shooting the most it would be my Hawken.

Simply elegance in 54 cal…Don Getz round bottom rifling 1:75…that barrel sat around here for 25 years…finally made use of it about a year and a half ago…everything is right about this one…It has zero “gonna have to live with it” traits…no quirks or warts to apologize for ’cept for that “too new” look.
(the stock is a reject board cutoff because of the figure…it couldn’t be used in the staircase so it was a freebie.View attachment 180562View attachment 180558

I made a few with fancy wood and such…but those simple clean lines make a statement making it my favorite

People can call my halfstocks Hawkens if they feel the need…I refer to them as sporting rifles of the wildest west.

My special gun is a copy of an old rifle from the Cheat River Valley , Preston Co. W.Va.. The walnut stock came from along the Monongahela River in Greene Co. , Pa.. The iron butt , and Pgh. , Pa. trigger guard , came from ashes of an old shed fire. She is a skinny flint lock lass , .40 cal. , 3/4" octagon barrel , 38 " long. It has scrap sheet copper thimbles,like chimney flashing on an old stone Federal period farm house . I like the rifle 'cause it comes from where I grew up , and places around my childhood home. The walnut trees growing there are very dense grained , and near black as a coal miner's hat. She's fun to practice with. The last year and a half,I been sick , but hopefully , will be seen at the range this spring , like I used to be...........oldwood..

After shooting my pawn shop Traditions I almost named it as my favorite! I can throw no rocks at it.

exist his rifle is the prettiest shown so far. Mine is not nearly so nice, but being a one gun hunter, I went for utility. Mine is a flint Pedersoli GPR which I dearly love. Everyone k owe what they look like. When I get it the way I want it, I will post photos.

Mine is a Dixie Gun Works left hand flintlock rifle .45 cal that was made in Japan. I am right handed but it feels good when you handle it and shooting it left or right is not really a problem.

A close second is a .45 cal Hopkins and Allen under hammer target rifle that Navy Arms imported many years ago. It is great fun to shoot.

My favorites long gun is my Allen Martin 40 cal Lehigh Valley tack driver. It’s the most beautiful rifle you can imagine. It doesn’t have all the fancy stuff on it. My aesthetic leans more simple, understated and Allen nailed it. The simple carvings and sexy lines of this rifle are just beautiful.

Today, my favorite was my Lyman GPR. Last week my North Star NW Trade Gun. Next week it could be my 32 cal SMR. It all depends on the day. One thing for sure it will be a flintlock.

I really like my newer Kbler 45 cal SMR. Nice for a lot of reasons.
