What Color Stain

Hey all,

I just ordered a new stock from Pecatonica for my TC Renegade. I want to stain it with LMF stain but not sure what color I would like. I want a nice honey red brown. Not super dark but not super light. Any suggestions? Tthe stock I am getting is Grade 3 maple. Still want to show the curl but not real dark.

A nice deep honey color would be great.

Get some small curley maple boards from Woodcraft or from some other seller and cut into 3-4 inch pieces. Then experiment with the various types and combinations of LMF stain. I have been doing this experimenting and have come up with some good colors. The piece of wood cost me about $25.00.

I like the LMF Lancaster Maple very much. A friend here who has built about 360 muzzleloading firearms likes that stain best of all.

when i ordered my stock from pecatonica river i asked if i can have any cuts off from my stock blank and they sent me all of them....so i have bout 10 samples of maple and it's the same wood from my stock so i know it will come out with the color stain i pick out of what i test................bob

You should be able to get a pretty good idea of what the different types of stains will do for you from there. And, by all means, get some scrap and do your own testing. You'll eventually find what you're looking for. Take notes so when you do, you can re-create it.
