:hmm: what describes a chunk gun in competition? Flint or percussion, weight, caliber, sights target? and then .Hog rifle What is the difference between them? What clothing would be PC for them ,Boon dockers and bibs and a flannel sirt and slouch hat? thanks

Any gun can be a chunk gun as long as you use a chunk of wood for a rest. I don't know if there is a PC dress code for a chunk shoot.

About what I thought and hoped . My origional JH Rector .56 will have to come out. Thanks

My understanding of chunk gun shoots are that any traditional rifle is allowed--although some competitors have custom rifles made for the event. Dress code is relaxed, some dress in overalls and felt hats like many in the old time photos--but some old timers wore slacks and neckties at the events. Any rifle you can shoot accurately will compete, but there may be an advantage to heavy rifles with long sight lengths.

Bob,
Thanks for your question....I always wanted to know also but was  to ask. Everyone
else seemed to know. I actually thought it refered
to the target rather than rifle.:redface:again
snake-eyes :v :hatsoff:

Mate, your'e not alone,
I just assumed it was a gun for shootin' chipmunks with, being such little critters the gun needed to be real accurate. :shocked2:
I kid you not! :haha:
Smokey. :shake:

If it is a tradionally styled rifle that is at least a tenth of your weight and at least equal to your height, chances are it is a chunk gun. :)

The reason that they are chunk or over-the-log guns is that no normal human could manage them off hand!
