I get wheel weights for free. I have three different places I pick them up. I use those for sinkers mostly and occasionally cart/dirt track cars weights..
I just paid .60 cents a pound for sheet lead from a scrap yard..Whats it running in your area?

I've only checked the one place nearby and it was $1/lb for pure lead. It may be cheaper elsewhere though as it's a small outfit and they pay less for other scrap metals.

I paid a dollar a pound last time I went, I cleaned him out, got 15lbs. Then yesterday I cleaned the tire shop guy out, got 16lbs. this time it was free!. I gave the guy a empty 5 gallon bucket an told him I would pay him $1.00lb. if he would save the stick-on wheel weights for me. We'll see how it works out. Btw, Grahm, how much lead did you get?

I got about 70 pounds of sheet lead..He gives me a decent deal I think because we occasionally trade forged items for scrap etc.

Just bought 25 pounds of old lead roof flashing today.
75 cents a pound

SC45-70

Out where I work they want to clean the range pits. 30 years worth of bullets. They(the state) are going cheap though and want a company to bring in all the equipment and do it for free and they can just keep the lead. Not very profitable.

I get all of the ww lead I want free. But pure lead costs 85 cents a lb at the local recycling place.

I've been quite fortunate, I haven't paid anything so far. Well, except for some donuts or some other gratuity to show appreciation. Probably have more than I'll ever use, but always on the lookout. Love old lead pipe. :)

A local salvage yard sells a 5 gal. bucket for $100.00. It is mixed and if you want pure lead you must separate. Then the hard stuff can be taken back to him and he will buy for his 'buy' price. I haven't calculated bottom line but it is one way to acquire lead.

I have a friend who has found a place in Houston where he can buy soft scrap lead for $1/lb. He said that most of it is roof flashing and old roof jacks. I have not seen it yet because I have not had him get any for me since I have about 200 pounds of lead in ingots stored in my garage. My son works at a medical center and I have told him that if they ever remodel or tear down an X-ray room to grab a couple hundred pounds for me. If he gets it for me, it's free. I like free! It's my favorite price.

$100.00!! I wouldn't pay that much, I went through TWO 5 gallon buckets at the tire shop just to get around 15lbs of lead. around a hour or so of work. That's why I left him a empty one with the offer to pay him. Grahm, 70lbs. of lead  That's a nice score!.

Recently, at a local scrapyard, I bought 150 pound of pure lead at 95 cents per pound.

Last night while I was bored I smelted down one piece of sheet into ingots. He has a bunch more but I was budgeting my money somewhat or I would have bought more. Ill probably make him a knife and trade him out of the rest of the sheet.

Whenever I need lead, I take my truck over to the shop where I bought the tires and get them rotated and balanced (free). While there, I ask the shop mgr if I can get some scrap stick-on lead weights. They're nearly pure lead and soft enough for RB's. Got about 20# yesterday afternoon. When I need more lead. I'll get the tires rotated and balanced again - those tires have the smoothest ride and are all wearing evenly & at the same rate - more than any I've owned in the past. Of course, I'm casting more lead lately.

Around here pure lead is going for .85 cents a pound.
Cheaper than that E-store and no shipping either.
